Source: Patriots waive Matt Corral, Release Ian Book

According to a source, the Patriots are waiving quarterbacks Matt Corral and Ian Book.

Corral, 24, entered the NFL as a third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers. However, after being the third-string backup last season, he was waived during the Panthers final roster cuts. The Patriots signed Matt Corral off waivers but has since cut the quarterback.

Corral attended Ole Miss and was a four-year starter. He completed 67.3% of his passes, throwing for 8.281 yards. He averaged 9.1 yards per attempt, recording 57 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

After leaving the team without notice, the quarterback spent time on the exempt/life squad list.

Book, 25, signed with the Patriots five days ago after spending time with the New Orleans Saints and Phudaelpia Eagles. The Patriots worked out Book at the end of the summer and signed him a day later.

The Notre Dame alum was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. Book has started one game in the NFL, throwing for 135 yards while completing 12-of-20 passes.

The two transactions leave the Patriots with three quarterbacks on their roster. Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe are the only active quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. That leaves Malik Cunningham as the third quarterback on the practice squad.

The Patriots will visit another division foe, this time the Jets as they play the Jets at 1:00 p.m.
