Quick 6: Get to know NFL Prospect Randall Harris

New Hampshire defensive back Randall Harris is quickly making a name for himself in the pre-draft process. Harris recently participated in the Patriots local day at the beginning of the month.

The 6’0, 194-pound defensive back has been a part of a lot of winning football in his life, including winning two state championships in high school. When watching the film, he is technically sound and can rely on his technique to make plays.

Harris recently spoke with The Patriots Beat about his experience playing nickel and safety, the pre-draft process, and what he looks for when he’s watching the film.

Why did you enter the transfer portal after playing at Central Michigan, and what made you pick New Hampshire?

It was just a feeling thing. I entered the transfer portal because once they told me they didn’t see me playing, I didn’t want to waste their time. I went to multiple schools. New Hampshire was the last school and all of that, so once I took a visit, I kind of saw myself there. After that, I committed there and played four seasons. The defense scheme was pretty similar. Both played variations of cover 4.

Were you always a cornerback, and what type of experience do you have playing nickel and safety?

I played wide receiver in high school. I always want to remember my time playing receiver because it helped me as a cornerback. I know a lot about receiver tendencies and what their thought process is when they go against me. I’ve played nickel and safety, too, and I find myself incredibly versatile.

When you are watching a film, what specifically are you looking for?

Usually, I’m looking for splits and tendencies. Receiver splits compared to where the ball is what route they’re running. I also want to watch the QB and see what he tends to do.

How has playing different sports helped you excel at football?

Every sport has different movements, and it is important to embrace different sports. Overall, development as an athlete, being able to excel, and being different are crucial. It’s also about the mentality and the grind. Every sport is a grind.

What is something you want to continue working on to improve your game?

I want to play faster. When I play faster, the game comes to your easily.

What are teams getting out of you if they draft you with their pick?

They’re getting a hard, dedicated worker. I started from the bottom. I’m used to a lot of change and adjusting. I give 110 percent every day in the weight room, film study, and. I’m a dedicated worker who focuses on what needs to be done.
