The Patriots roster is now at 89 players. On the day before training camp starts, the Patriots signed free agent linebacker Diego Fagot, according to NFL Networks’ Tom Pellierso.
Fagot, 25, had a successful workout with the Patriots on Monday. New England also had WR Darion Chafin (Incarnate Word), DT Aaron Crawford (North Carolina), DT Khalil Davis (Nebraska), DT Bruce Hector (South Florida), WR Jalen Hurd (Baylor), and QB Matthew McKay (Elon) in for workouts.
The former Navy team captain originally signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent last May but was released as a result of roster cutdowns. The 6-foot-3, 238 pounder registered 35 starts with 282 tackles, 9.5 sacks and two interceptions with the Midshipmen.
Fagot is a two-time first team All-American ACC selection and was named Shrine Bowl MVP.
He will have to earn his spot on the 53-man roster. The Patriots have plenty of depth at the linebacker position which consists of Matthew Judon, Josh Uche, Ja’Whaun Bentley, Anfernee Jennings, Jahlani Tavai, Chris Board, Keion White, Marte Mapu, Mack Wilson, Ronnie Perkins, Terez Hall, Calvin Munson, Olakunle Fatukasi.
Patriots veterans are expected to report back to Gillette Stadium on Tuesday for the first training camp practice of the 2023 season. Practice is set for 9:30 a.m. ET.
