According to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, offensive tackle Conor McDermott has agreed to a deal to remain in New England. McDermott was set to hit the open market, but the Patriots chose to keep the 30-year-old in Foxboro. McDermott is a former Patriots draft pick, but was waived by the team in 2018.

The UCLA product spent a stint in Buffalo before signing to the Jets practice squad. Last season the Patriots signed McDermott off the Jets practice squad. McDermott made six starts for the Patriots in 2022 and appeared in 13 games between the Jets and the Patriots. The Patriots dealt with several injuries on the offensive line last season, and McDermott provided depth for New England. Even when Yodny Cajuste returned from injury, McDermott continued his starting role. The tackle was rated New England’s highest-graded run blocker per Pro Football Focus. In addition, the 6’8, 278-pounder didn’t allow a sack all season.

According to Patriots reporter Taylor Kyles, McDermott played under new Patriots OL coach Adrian Klemm while at UCLA. The Patriots have Trent Brown and Andrew Stueber as their only tackles under contract for the 2023 season.
