Hours after releasing J.C. Jackson, the New England Patriots have re-signed a former player.
According to Tom Pelierssero, the Patriots have signed quarterback Nathan Rourke.
Rourke, 25, was signed by the Patriots last December after the team decided to waive quarterback Will Grier. Rourke signed a rookie contract with the Jaguars last off-season. The Ohio product has no regular-season appearances but played in the preseason last year. Rourke completed 23 35 attempts for 348 yards (9.9 YPA) with one touchdown and zero interceptions.
Before joining the NFL, the 6’1, 210-pounder played for two years in the Canadian Football League. He threw 25 touchdowns with ten interceptions for the British Columbia Lions. In college, he played at Ohio, recording 60 touchdowns from 2017 to 2019. He tossed for 7,457 yards and led the Bobcats to three straight bowl victories.
Reportedly, former Patriots first-round pick Mac Jones will ppl for a job elsewhere this week, with the Patriots exploring the possibility of trading him. According to Jeff Howe of the Athletic, the Patriots plan to draft a rookie quarterback with their top-3 selection.
With Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe’s future uncertain, Rourke provides depth to the quarterback position.
The NFL Combine continues on Saturday when the quarterbacks take center stage.
