Along with signing TE La’Michael Pettway to the 53-man roster, the Patriots made several roster moves ahead of their Week 18 game against the New York Jets.
With the Patriots signing TE La’Michael Pettway to the active roster, the Patriots placed Hunter Henry on the injured reserve. Furthermore, the Patriots have promoted OL Andrew Stuber and TE Matt Sokol from the practice squad to the active roster.
Pettway, 26, signed to the Patriots practice squad last month but hasn’t played in any games thus far. The Patriots brought Pettway in for a workout, and a month later, he signed with the practice squad. Before signing with the Patriots, the 6’2, 223-pounder played two seasons with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. Pettway registered eight catches for 99 yards and two scores.
Last summer, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts but was later waived due to an injury. During five years at Arkansas and Iowa State, Pettway hauled 92 catches for 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The tight end entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Pettway joins Mike Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown on the active roster. Both Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki will be free agents at the end of the season.
The Patriots also elevated Matt Sokol and Andrew Stueber to the 53-man roster. Sokol has been elevated to the active roster for the past two weeks and will now get another chance. Meanwhile, this marks Stueber’s second straight roster elevation due to Trent Brown not playing. The 2023 tackle situation hasn’t gone as planned this season, with Calvin Anderson, Riley Reiff, and Conor McDermott all suffering injuries and being placed on the injured reserve.
The Patriots will host the New York Jets this week. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
