Patriots clinch top-three draft pick with loss to Jets

A historically bad season for the New England Patriots ended on Sunday when they dropped their season finale to the New York Jets. New England will finish their 2023 campaign with a 4-13 record, their worst record under the Belichick era.

With the Patriots dropping their regular season finale to the New York Jets, the Patriots have clinched a top-three selection in the upcoming draft. However, New England can only receive the second or third overall pick as the Carolina Panthers claimed the first overall pick last week.

Unfortunately, the Patriots didn’t get much help from around the league, as the Falcons couldn’t get the job lost 48-17 to the Saints. As a result, the Patriots won’t be able to win any tiebreaker over the Commanders. So, if Washington loses against the Dallas Cowboys, they will clinch the second overall pick. The game will kick-off at 4:25 p.m. and can be viewed on Fox.

Conversely, if the Commanders earn the upset over the Cowboys, then the Patriots will get the number second overall pick. However, don’t get your hopes up, as the Commanders are 13-point underdogs.

Even though the Patriots will likely earn the third overall pick in the NFL draft, there is still a ton of talent available in the upcoming draft. One of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels will be available if they want to select a quarterback. Furthermore, generational wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. is considered a top-3 pick in the 2024 draft.
