The New England Patriots have made their second external signing of the 2023 offseason, adding former Bears offensive tackle Riley Reiff. According to ESPN insider Dianna Russini, the Patriots are expected to sign the veteran tackle to a multi-year deal.
Reiff, 34, has experience in the NFL, playing 11 seasons for the Lions, Vikings, Bengals, and Bears. The former first-round pick entered the NFL in 2012 when the Lions selected him with the 20th overall pick. He was in Detroit for five seasons, primarily playing left tackle. However, he left the Lions and signed with their rival, the Minnesota Vikings. Reiff played in Minnesota for four seasons. He then had short stints with the Bengals and Bears.
Last season he played in 16 games, starting 10 of them. Reiff is a strong player, as PFF graded him the No. 51 overall tackle out of 81 players last season. Reiff has started in 149 of his 163 games at both left and right tackle and is expected to compete for a starting job, per The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.
The 2022 season consisted of several injuries to the Patriots’ offensive line. Yesterday, New England signed former Broncos tackle Calvin Anderson. Both players they’ve added are established veterans that provide depth for the Patriots.
Reiff will complement the Patriots’ tackle core, including Brown, Conor McDermott, Yodny Cajuste, Andrew Stueber, and Calvin Anderson.
