J.C. Jackson won’t travel to Germany amid ‘reliability concerns’

The Patriots will not have one of their veteran defensive backs in Germany.

According to Ian Rapport, J.C. Jackson will not travel with the team to Germany and will take a mental reset heading into the Patriots bye week.

Last Sunday got off to a strange start on the defensive side of the ball as J.C. Jackson was seemingly benched to start the game. Jackson, 27, resigned with the Patriots via a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. The reunion started strong, with Jackson starting three straight games leading up to Sunday. However, the 27-year-old struggled in Week 8 against the Dolphins, allowing two touchdowns and committing a pass-interference penalty in the endzone.

After the game against Washington, Bill Belichick wouldn’t acknowledge the situation.

“Everybody played,” Belichick said. “They all played.”

Jackson has been radio silent since Week 7 and hasn’t spoken to the media in over three weeks. After the game, he declined to speak to reporters, saying, “I’m not talking.”

Jackson joining the Patriots was much needed, with injuries coming left and right to the Patriot’s cornerback room. However, it was reported by ESPN’s Kris Rhim that Jackson was often unfocused with the Chargers.

“Telesco stood before the group and began to apologize,” ESPN reported. “Telesco told the group that signing Jackson was a mistake, according to multiple team sources. He apologized for continuing to give Jackson opportunities despite Jackson routinely showing that he wasn’t as committed as the rest of the team while being one of the Chargers’ highest-paid players. Telesco called the move a ‘swing and a miss.'”

Jackson signed with the Patriots in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. He quickly became a ballhawk and was known as MR. INT. After the 2021 season, he signed a five-year $82.5 million contract with the Chargers.

Along with J.C. Jackson, Jack Jones also saw his snaps decrease in Week 9, as he sat out the first three series. It’s unclear if Jones’s status is up in the air for Sunday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
