Drake Maye has a real chance for NFL MVP

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye played in his first primetime game of his career last Thursday night. New England won the game 27-14 to improve to 9-2, earning the best record in the AFC. Now they sit second behind the Denver Broncos, who won on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs 22-19. As far as it goes for Maye, the Most Valuable Player award has a real path to come to Foxborough if Maye keeps playing at this high level. On Thursday night Maye went 25/34 for 281 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions and finished with a 73.5 completion percentage. The jump from year one to year two has been incredible due to the coaching change and also bringing back offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

MVP talk

It has been for weeks that the MVP chants have been happening after games and they have also been brought to Maye’s attention by the media. He leads the NFL with 2,836 passing yards and is tied for second with 20 touchdowns. These are impressive stats for the 23 year old from North Carolina. In only his second year he has a real chance to win MVP. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has also been playing lights out and leading his team to a 9-2 record, but Maye should be getting the credit he deserves.

Comfort level for Maye in 2025

Each game this season things have gotten better for the young quarterback. Minimizing turnovers has been key for Maye as of late. He has taken 36 sacks on the season, which is second in the NFL behind Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward with 41. Speaking to the level of confidence Maye has had this season, just making throws from the pocket or stepping up and gaining yards with his legs has been key to the offense. It is amazing what he is doing, finding his open receivers or tight ends at the right time, and they are always there to catch it and make plays.

Onto Cincinnati in Week 12

After this ten day break between last Thursday and this upcoming Sunday, the Patriots will travel to Cincinnati to face the 3-7 Bengals. This will be a tough test, traveling to Ohio for the second straight season and looking for an eighth straight win against a hungry Bengals squad. For Maye to keep playing at this level he has to limit mistakes and turnovers and try to come away with their tenth victory.
