After missing out on former Eagles tackle Andre Dillard, the Patriots have finally addressed a significant need, signing an offensive tackle.
The New England Patriots have signed their first external free agent of the 2023 offseason. The Patriots are adding former Bronco Calvin Anderson on a two-year deal, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
The 26-year-old spent a brief stint in New England as he entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Anderson spent his first few weeks in the NFL with the Patriots before being released in May. Anderson was claimed by the Jets and spent his rookie campaign on the Jets’ practice squad.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder signed with the Broncos the following season, tallying 12 starts and playing in 41 games spanning over four years. He allowed pressure on 3.5% of his pass-blocking snaps last season, per PFF. In his career, he has seen action on 743 offensive snaps and 160 on special teams.
The Patriots needed a versatile athletic swing tackle, and they got their player. Anderson offers strength and quickness, addressing one of the Patriots’ most significant needs. Complementing Anderson at tackle, the Patriots have Trent Brown, Calvin Anderson, Conor McDermott Andrew Stueber as depth.
