The Patriots made a surprising move on Tuesday afternoon, announcing the release of veteran wideout Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Humphrey was bumped down to the practice squad on Oct. 15 after a brief stint on the active roster.

Humphrey was signed to New England in June and led New England in receptions during the preseason. After clearing waivers, he was signed to the practice squad. He began the season on the practice squad, but the Patriots chose to elevate him for the first game. However, midway through October, he was released from the active roster and resigned from the practice squad on Oct. 15.
Humphrey began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He then signed with the Saints for the last three years. The UT product played in six games, starting two games but just tallied two receptions for 20 yards. In his career, he has played in 24 regular seasons games, with eight starts, and has caught 18 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns.
His unique size and “big body” allowed New England to utilize him as an extra blocker or, on some occasions, use him as a tight end in jumbo sets.
The wide receiver room now consists of Jakboi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Tyquan Thornton, Raleigh Webb, Lynn Boyden Jr., and Tre Nixon.
Along with New England releasing Lil’Jordan Humphrey, the Patriots hosted former Patriot Terez Hall for a workout. Hall was with the team last year but was released in May after failing a physical. New England has had linebacker issues this season, so Hall may eventually be signed to the practice squad.
The New England Patriots will face off with the New York Jets on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
