Week 6 Preview Patriots At Saints

I can’t believe Week 6 of the NFL season is already upon us, wow! The New England Patriots are currently (3-2) and in 2nd place in the AFC East, currently on a two-game winning streak. As for the New Orleans Saints (1-4) on the season, first-year head coach Kellen Moore earned his first win last week at home against the New York Giants, 26-14. Both of these teams are going in opposite directions, as the Saints have been looking to find their identity under Moore and haven’t established the answer at quarterback, with second-year starter Spencer Rattler leading the team. New Orleans has some key players like WR Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, RB Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, DE Cam Jordan, Chase Young, and LB Demario Davis. New England should head into this week’s matchup not lightly, with some key veterans down in the Bayou. After strong wins against the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills, who lead your division and also were undefeated before the win last week, they are now looking for their first three-game winning streak since the 2022 season.

Drake Maye and Stefon Diggs have connected well the past two weeks dating back to Week 4 against the Panthers. Diggs, in Week 4, had 6 receptions for 101 receiving yards on 7 targets. Then against his former team in Week 5 Sunday night in Buffalo, he had 10 receptions for 146 receiving yards with 12 targets. After a slow start between Diggs and Maye to start the 2025 season, these two have connected well, and I see this being consistent going forward. Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels has helped Maye and this offense go into another gear, only in his second season in the NFL being under center. Each week Maye has been productive in the pass game and also has had the ability to scramble and gain yards on the ground. Consistency for the Patriots on offense is definitely a key for success for the team going forward, especially if Maye keeps producing at a high level.

Looking ahead at the matchup against the Saints, one thing that stands out to me is the health and availability of CB Christian Gonzalez. Head coach Mike Vrabel said earlier this week that the decision on Gonzalez will be made 90 minutes before kickoff at 10:30 A.M. CT. After missing the first three weeks of the regular season and playing the last two weeks, Gonzalez appeared on the injury report later this week and was limited. Coach Vrabel hasn’t said much regarding the status of Gonzalez, but seeing the defense is already missing players for this week, he is needed to play.

Players out for this Week 6 matchup against the Saints:

RB: Antonio Gibson – ACL
S: Jaylinn Hawkins – Hamstring
LB: Anfernee Jennings – Ankle
DE: Keion White – Elbow

The Patriots should continue their success for their second game of a three-game road trip down in New Orleans as long as they bring their performances from the past two weeks, scoring 65 combined points. Look for the offense to continue to build on their success and the defense, missing key players, to step up and contain Rattler, Olave, and Kamara and not have those guys beat you through the air or on the ground. New England is in a good stretch of their schedule to pile up wins against the teams you should beat and compete for a playoff spot this early in the season.
