The day has finally arrived. It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and the New England Patriots will be taking on the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of a previous big, important game. Oh yeah! Who can forget former cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepting Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson at the goal line in Super Bowl XLIX as the Patriots won 28-24.
Onto the new era of New England and Seattle, with both teams finishing the regular season with a 14-3 record and making their way to meet again at the end of the season. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is in his first season as New England’s head coach after previously playing for the team from 2001-2008, winning three Super Bowls. As for Seattle, head coach Mike Macdonald is in his second season with the team and is from Scituate, Massachusetts. He will be looking to win his first Super Bowl within his first two years with the organization.
Drake Maye history regarding the Super Bowl and current playoff run
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye enters his first playoffs in only his second season with a 3-0 record and is looking to go a perfect 4-0 with a win in Super Bowl LX. This comes full circle for Maye because ten years ago, in Super Bowl 50, he watched his Carolina Panthers take on Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos in the same stadium, Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It has been some ups and downs for Maye this postseason, especially with the talk of the town being whether he was “good to go” after the injury he suffered in the AFC Championship against Denver. Maye will be a full go come game time later today. Maye will become the second-youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl at 23 years and 162 days old, only behind former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who was 23 years and 127 days old back in 1985.
Things to look for
There will be several matchups to look out for in this year’s Super Bowl on both sides. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez covering wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Patriots defensive line against quarterback Sam Darnold, and Seattle’s defensive front against New England’s offensive line and Drake Maye. It’s going to be a tough defensive battle on either side, and it could come down to a big stop in the final minutes or a potential turnover. The Patriots are 9-0 on the road this season and have embraced the “warriors” mentality, not letting any of the noise get to them. For Seattle, they have been everyone’s favorite choice to win this Super Bowl, but I wouldn’t be jumping so fast.
Game outlook
Look for this Super Bowl to be very close, with many great plays made on both sides. I have the Patriots winning 30-27 over the Seahawks. It will not be an easy task for New England to contain Smith-Njigba in the pass game, but I’m sure Vrabel has something drawn up to limit his big plays down the field. Another thing to keep an eye out for is defensive tackle Milton Williams, who is playing in his second straight Super Bowl and could be disruptive against Darnold in the pocket. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is playing in his first Super Bowl after 11 seasons in the league. Look for Maye to have at least three passing touchdowns and potentially one on the ground. The Most Valuable Player will be Drake Maye with his great success in this game. Hope everyone enjoys the Super Bowl. It’s going to be a good one.
