The Patriots are releasing another defensive player.
The New England Patriots plan to release linebacker Carson Wells, a source tells the Patriots Beat.
Wells, 24, signed with the Patriots two weeks ago. Wells entered the NFL with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent. The Colorado alum was released last summer and later started his XFL journey. The St. Louis Battlehawks selected Wells with the 62nd overall pick in the XFL draft.
Wells recorded 45 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 10 games with the Battlehawks.
The 6-4, 250-pounder was a four-year starter in Colorado, registering 103 tackles, 17 1/2 sacks, and three interceptions in 40 games with the Buffaloes.
The Patriots must finalize their 53-man roster by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Patriot’s current roster sits at 85 players.
