The New England Patriots are preparing for their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots are elevating LB to the active roster for Week 1, a source tells The Patriots Beat.
Munson, 28, joined the NFL when he signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent. The former San Diego State stand-out appeared in 14 games with the Giants before signing with the Patriots.
After one season in New England, the Miami Dolphins signed Munson, but it wasn’t long until the linebacker joined the Patriots again. Munson has recorded two sacks and one forced fumble in 43 NFL games.
The Patriots added linebacker Chris Board in free agency, causing Munson’s roster spot to be in danger. Although Munson had a good preseason, more was needed for him to make the 53-man roster.
In the final preseason game against the Titans, Munson tallied ten tackles, including one for loss. In addition, Munson made an insane interception in the first half of the third preseason game.
Munson has experience on special teams and saw plenty of reps during the summer.
The Patriots and Eagles are scheduled to kick off from Gillette Stadium at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
