More injury news arrived in New England as Field Yates announced punter Jake Bailey will be placed on the injured reserve.
The Patriots have another punter on their roster in Micheal Palardy. In the corresponding move, the Patriots elevated Palardy to the active roster. The lefty punter joined the team earlier in the month and reportedly helped the Patriots get ready for Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez.
Bailey has been struggling this season and he didn’t help his case in New England last game against the Colts when he ended the game with a seven yard punt. The 25-year old has been inconsistent this season, and currently ranks last amoung punters, averaging 35.3 net yards per punt. Additionally he has five touchbacks which rank second in the league.
The Stanford product signed a four-year $13.5 million contract extension in the summer but has been disappointing thus far.
Palardy was signed by New England in early November after a workout. He went to the University of Tennesse and was an undrafted free agent. He’s played with the Raiders, Rams, Panthers, Browns, Falcons and Dolphins. The 30-year old has participated in 72 games, punting 321 times, averaging 45.2 yards per punt. Last season he hit his career long with a 65-yard punt and also earned AFC special teams player of the week.
The Patriots and Jets square off Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
