According to multiple reports, the New England Patriots will not retain another offensive coach.
Quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney will be leaving the Patriots after only one season. With the recent hiring of Josh McDaniels, many 2024 offensive coaches are also departing. Last season, McCartney worked closely with Drake Maye and helped develop him into an impressive rookie.
McCartney walked on to play quarterback at LSU before turning to coaching in 2011. Starting as a graduate assistant with the Tigers in 2011, he was eventually hired by the San Francisco 49ers as an offensive assistant/quality control coach in 2017. After staying with the 49ers for a year, he made stops in Denver and Cleveland before joining the Patriots.
The 35-year-old worked with ex-Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt in Cleveland. Drake Maye praised both of his coaches in December.
“Van Pelt and T.C. have been awesome, and I can’t say enough about those guys,” Maye told the media.
The respect was mutual. McCartney praised the rookie quarterback, commending his ability to learn an NFL offense so quickly.
“I think his development happened very quickly. We knew he was sharp, but I think he may be the smartest person in this building,” McCartney said, via MassLive’s Mark Daniels.
The New England Patriots will work quickly to fill their offensive coaching staff under coordinator Josh McDaniels.
