Bill Belichick is sending a clear message to the locker room.

The New England Patriots are releasing Jack Jones, agent J. Tooson said Monday.

“Certainly, we want to thank the Patriot Organization for drafting Jack,” Tooson said in a statement released by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. “Jack is an immense talent and looks forward to making an immediate contribution on his next team as soon as Sunday.”

Along with Mac Jones, cornerback Jack Jones was also benched in Sunday’s game against the Colts. Jones just recorded ten defensive snaps in Frankfurt, which marked his lowest snap count of the season.

It was the second straight week that Jones seemingly was benched. The previous time coming against the Commanders. The 25-year-old didn’t see playing time until the second quarter in Week 9. In the last two weeks, Jones has displayed questionable sideline behavior. He often sat alone on the bench with a towel draped over his head.

Jones, 25, entered the NFL as a 2022 fourth-round pick. He has registered 30 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 18 games.

After the game on Sunday, Jabrill Peppers spoke to the media, saying he wants to see where Jones’s head is.

“I’ve got a very good relationship with him. I’m going to go talk to him, see where his head’s at,” Peppers said after Sunday’s loss, per Chris Mason of MassLive.com. “We’ve got a bye week coming up. Chill out and refresh, reload, and come back ready to go to New York.”

The Patriots are 2-8 entering their bye week and in last place in the AFC. They currently hold the third overall pick in the NFL draft.
