Although the Patriots are parting ways with head coach Jerod Mayo, reports have suggested that Executive President of Player Personal Eliot Wolf is expected to stay in his position.
The Athletic’s Chad Graff first reported the news, saying Wolf “is expected to return in his current role.” Usually, in the NFL, front-office changes happen after the NFL Draft. A tremendous amount of work has been done for the upcoming draft.
With the Shrine Bowl, Senior Bowl, and Combine coming up in the next two months, it makes sense that the Patriots have chosen to keep their front office intact.
Then, the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan added to Graff’s report.
“Patriots executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf is expected to remain in his current role while the franchise moves on from recently fired head coach Jerod Mayo, according to a source,” Callahan wrote.
Wolf joined the Patriots in 2020 and was shortly promoted to Director of Scouting in 2022 before overseeing the entire personnel department.
However, Wolf approved the acquisitions of Chukwuma Okorafor and K.J. Osborn, who didn’t contribute significantly and were released halfway through the season.”
The 42-year-old has over 20 years of front-office experience, working with the Packers and Browns before joining the Patriots. For now, he’s staying with the Patriots and will play a monumental role in finding the new head coach of the Patriots.
The Patriots have a huge off-season ahead of them to continue their rebuild, which started in 2019. The franchise has a projected salary cap of $130 million and owns the fourth overall pick
