The New England Patriots have expanded their international territory, as Austria and Switzerland have been added to the Patriot’s marketing territory. Additionally, the Patriots were granted International marketing rights for two of Germany’s border countries. New England had previously established rights in Germany. However, they share the country with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers.
“Since announcing Germany as our home market, we have seen incredibly many reactions from Austrian and Swiss fans who also wanted to become part of the Patriots,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We were therefore really happy when the NFL told us that it has accepted our proposal to increase to the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region. Now, we are looking forward to plenty of action in the entire German-speaking area.”
The Patriots are now allowed to conduct certain marketing activities in those countries and explore business deals and relationships abroad. Although there hasn’t been an NFL game in Austria or Switzerland yet, there could be soon, and the Patriots would have a high likelihood of playing in one of those games. New England will head abroad in early November as they are set to host the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany, on November 12. It will be the Patriot’s first international game since 2017, when the team played in Mexico City, and the first contest in Europe since the Patriots traveled to London in 2012.
“We are thrilled to be selected to play in Germany this year,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement. “We are undefeated in our three previous international games, thanks in part to the outstanding support from our fans. We know some of our most passionate fans reside in Germany, and we look forward to finally playing a game there.
“We know the fans will create an amazing atmosphere. We are sure it will be a memorable experience and one of the highlights of the 2023 season.”
Several NFL teams are expanding their outreach globally, as 21 out of 32 NFL teams have bound agreements with other countries. There are 14 countries involved, spanning six continents. The countries are Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
