The Patriots are placing one of their veteran free-agent signings on the injured reserve for the second time this season.
New England placed tackle Calvin Anderson (undisclosed illness) on the injured reserve Friday. Anderson will miss a minimum of four games before he can return to the 53-man roster.
The former Denver Bronco’ missed most of training camp and the preseason with an illness. The Patriots placed him on the non-football injury list in late July.
Anderson, 27, has appeared in six games and started the first two games this season for the Patriots, playing 100% of the snaps in both outings. The tackle joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2019 before being claimed off waivers by the New York Jets. After spending time in East Rutherford, he was signed to the Broncos, becoming the Broncos starting tackle.
The Rice and Texas Product appeared in 41 games in Denver before being formally signed by the Patriots in free agency.
Currently, on the depth chart, Anderson is listed as the only backup tackle behind Trent Brown. It’s expected that the Patriots will fill the open roster spot with veteran Conor McDermott.
