The Patriots continue to add to their offensive side of the football.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Patriots are hiring Ashton Grant as their quarterbacks coach.
Working as an offensive assistant with the Cleveland Browns last season, he received interest from the Packers and Patriots this offseason. He’s been with the Browns since 2020. He was promoted to offensive quality control coach in 2022 and became an offensive assistant in 2023, spending most of his time with the quarterbacks.
The 28-year-old is a native of the New England area who played high school football at Manchester High School. He set a school record for most touchdown receptions in a single season. He spent time at the Chiefs and Browns rookie minicamps before retiring from football and entering the coaching world.
This past season, Drake Maye received guidance from several people, including Alex Van Pelt, T.C. McCartney, and Ben McAdoo. With Van Pelt and McCartney leaving the team, it’ll be interesting to see the adjustments that are made.
It’s also important to note that Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has often held the role of quarterbacks coach along with offensive coordinator. However, that will not be the case this season, with Grant being hired as the sole quarterbacks coach.
