Patriots are hosting a former BYU tackle for a Top-30 visit

The New England Patriots are hosting former BYU tackle Kingsley Suamataia for their second reported top-30 visit.

Suamataia, 21, was a 5-star recruit out of high school and originally committed to Oregon. However, he redshirted his first year with the Ducks and transferred to BYU before the 2022 season. A unique fact about the former BYU standout is that he is the cousin of the Lions’ correct tackle, Penei Sewell.

In his college career, Suamataia has 22 career starts, and those starts are split evenly. He has recorded ten starts at LT and 12 at RT. Suamataia is known for his excellent run-blocking ability, partly because of BYU’s RPO-heavy scheme.

The 6’5, 326-pounder earned Preseason ALl-Big 12 honors in 2023. He uses his size well, has excellent lateral movement, and can work through the second level.

Suamataia was invited to the Senior Bowl and the Combine, where he excelled in front of several NFL scouts.

The talented tackle projects to be a second-round selection in the upcoming draft. The Patriots currently have Chukwuma Okorafor as their projected left tackle.
