Matthew Judon agrees to restructured contract that increases guarantees

The New England Patriots and Pro Bowl linebacker Matthew Judon have agreed on a reworked contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. According to Schefter, Judon will earn $14 MM guaranteed this season, a $12 MM increase. No new years were added to the contract, and Judon will be a free agent after the 2024 season.

Judon has been the Patriot’s sack leader for the past two seasons, collecting 28 sacks in his first two years as a Patriot. There are only two players who have recorded more sacks in that span, Nick Bosa with 34 and Myles Garret with 32.

Judon, 30, is a former Ravens fifth-round pick. He is coming off of his second season with the Patriots, where he had a career-high 15 ½ sacks. He became the fourth player in Patriots history to have back-to-back seasons with double-digit sacks. Judon is already 12th on New England’s all-time sack list, which is impressive after only appearing in 34 games.

Earlier in the week, the outside linebacker talked with WBZ Dan Roche about his future and contract negotiation.

“I don’t ever want to leave,” Judon told Roche. “I’m finding stuff like this and just making it home and trying to be more a part of the community, so I never want to leave. That’s not my intent. Forever. I want to retire here. I’m very comfortable. I love it.”

His teammates agree with the value he adds to the team. “His motor, he just never stops,” safety Adrian Phillps told the media. “Outside of practice, in the locker room, he’s always on 100.”
