Unfortunate news arrived in Foxborough late Friday afternoon as Field Yates reported defensive lineman Christian Barmore was placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury.
Barmore will miss his fourth consecutive game, dating back to Oct. 16 against the Cleveland Browns. On the season, the second-year pro has 15 tackles with one sack. The sophomore was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but did not participate on Friday. Reportedly Barmore suffered a setback and will have to miss the next four games. Barmore won’t be eligible to return until Week 15 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Without Barmore, the Patriots will roll with Davon Godchaux, Lawrence Guy, Carl Davis, Daniel Ekuale, and Sam Roberts at defensive tackle.
In a corresponding move, the Patriots added undrafted rookie guard Kody Russey to the 53-man roster. Russey has been elevated the past two weeks because of the absence of a key offensive lineman.
In other injury news, the Patriots listed punter Jake Bailey as doubtful with a back injury. Bailey has been struggling this year and his back injury popped up on the injury report earlier in the week. If Bailey can’t suit up, the Patriots will elevate practice squad left-footed punter Michael Palardy.
In addition, the Patriots listed three players as questionable, LB Anfernee Jennings (knee), DeVante Parker (back), and Josh Uche (hamstring.) However, CB Jonathan Jones, S Kyle Dugger, and DL DaMarcus Mitchell are all off the injury report and are good to go.
WR Corey David (knee) and DT Sheldon Rankins (elbow) will both be inactive for the Jets. Davis had missed the first two days of practice, and it was announced he wouldn’t be making the trip on Friday morning when Rankins’ destination had been known since the beginning of the week. In addition, TE Kenny Yeboah did not participate in practice Friday, with a reported calf injury. He is listed as doubtful for Sunday. Offensive lineman Nate Herbig (shin) practiced for the first time this week, as he was a limited participant and is listed as questionable.
The Patriots and Jets kick off Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
