The New England Patriots continue to trim their roster, releasing four more players Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots released LB Diego Fagot, DT Justus Tavai, S Brad Hawkins, and TE Johhny Lumpkin. The Patriots currently have 81 spots on their roster.

Fagot, 25, signed with the Patriots earlier in the summer. He played in all three preseason games for the Patriots. Last season, Fagot signed with the Ravens as a rookie free agent but was released before the season started. The Navy linebacker totaled 282 tackles, 9 ½ sacks, five forced fumbles, and two interceptions in 47 games for the Naval Academy.

Fagot joined the XFL last winter and was drafted by the Houston Roughnecks with the 68th overall pick. However, he never played a snap for the Roughnecks and was waived in February.

Tavai, 25, is a San Diego State product who signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in May. Tavai was released a month later but was later brought back before minicamp. The 25-year-old is the brother of Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai.

Hawkins, 25, spent most of his rookie year on the Patriots practice squad. However, Hawkins was never promoted to the practice squad. Hawkins signed a future contract with New England at the beginning of the offseason. Hawkins is a candidate to bring back to the 16-man practice squad if he passes through waivers.

Lumpkin, 25, signed with the Patriots in May out of Louisiana, where he was a three-year starter. While with the Ragin’ Cajuns, Lumpkin recorded 36 receptions, 408 yards, and six scores in 43 games. Lumpkin didn’t record a catch this preseason, and the 6’6, 268-pound tight end will be subject to waivers.

The Patriots must finalize their 53-man roster by Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Patriot’s current roster sits at 81 players.
