Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced on Good Morning Football that former quarterback Tom Brady will be honored at New England’s 2023 home opener. According to the Scores’ Jordan Shultz, the Patriot’s home opener will occur against the Miami Dolphins during Week 2 of the regular season. The game will reportedly take place Sunday night.
“The greatest player in the history of the game played right here in Foxboro,” Kraft said. “And I’m happy to tell you … I invited him back to come here and be with us at the opening game.”
The Patriots drafted the quarterback during the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. Brady later took over for the injured Drew Bledsoe and started his Hall of Fame career. In the following years, Brady would transform the New England Patriots into one of the greatest dynasties in all sports. The 45-year-old left New England in 2019 and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady would later lead the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title, winning his seventh Super Bowl. No other franchise has more than six championships.
During his time with the Patriots, Brady threw for 74,571 yards, and 541 touchdowns against 179 interceptions. However, Brady left the Patriots during free agency in 2020 and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his first year with the team, Brady led the Bucs to a Super Bowl victory, shocking the world.
One day after former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady retired, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft went on CNN to discuss the aftermath of Brady’s retirement. He told CNN that Brady is welcome to come to New England and retire as a Patriot.
“Not only do I want it, our fans are clamoring for it,” Kraft said. “To us, he has always been and always will be a Patriot. “We will do everything in our power to bring him back, have him sign off as a Patriot, and find ways to honor him for many years to come.”
The Patriots haven’t announced any plans to sign Tom Brady to a one-day contract but it’s not unrealistic.
