The New England Patriots will bring back another familiar face, as Tom Pellisero of NFL.com announced that the Patriots are re-signing linebacker Mack Wilson. The deal is reportedly worth up to $1.25M, spanning over one year.
The Patriots acquired Mack Wilson via trade last season. The trade sent former Patriots linebacker Chase Winovich to Cleveland. Wilson played 45 games in Cleveland before leaving for Foxborough. The 25-year-old was an intriguing signing as he was an athletic solid linebacker that would bring speed to the Patriots’ second level. Wilson finished his first year in New England with 36 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Wilson played 234 of a possible 1,130 snaps (20.7%) on defense but failed to register a defensive snap for the last five games of the season.
Before agreeing to a deal with the Patriots, the Browns and Texans wanted to sign Mack Wilson.
The Patriots retained most of their defensive players, including fellow linebacker Raekwon McMillan earlier in the week. Wilson will complement Ja’Whaun Bentley and Jahlani Tavai at outside linebacker.
More to come.
