On Friday, January 24, New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was acquitted of all charges stemming from his domestic violence arrest on October 5, according to Charlie McKenna of MassLive.
Peppers, 29, faced three charges of domestic violence after being arrested in October. He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B drug, per court records. He was later placed on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List and missed seven games.
The Patriots later issued a statement:
“We understand that the league’s investigation will continue, as will the legal process. We will await the outcome of both before making any further comment.”
After his arrest, he was released on a $2,500 bail. Furthermore, according to court records, police found cocaine in his wallet on the night of his arrest. This week, Peppers entered a plea deal for the misdemeanor drug possession charge. Per MassLive, the charge will be dropped if he remains drug-free and undergoes random drug testing.
After being found not guilty, Peppers made his first public statement about the case on X.
“What people choose to believe about you is indicative of how they feel about you. I needed that reminder! To those who believed in me and knew I would never do what I was accused of doing to a woman, thank you. Those who believed the accusations without any evidence, thank u too,” Peppers tweeted.
At the pre-trial hearing, Peppers’ attorney, Marc Alan Brofsky, said the alleged victim demanded more than $10 million to settle the case or else she would file a civil suit against Peppers.
On Thursday, the alleged victim testified in court, saying that the 29-year-old “grabbed her by the neck, slammed her against the wall, and then pushed her down the stairs after another man called her phone numerous times while they were in bed,” via AtoZ.com.
Peppers testified, stating that he believed “she was trying to do all this to mess up my career,” via The Boston Globe.
The Patriots signed the former 2017 first-round pick in 2022. The veteran safety previously played for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants before joining the Patriots. Over the course of his first two seasons, he started 20 games.
After the 2024 season, he inked a three-year extension worth up to $25 million with the Patriots.
