Davon Godchux entering the final year of his contract, agreed to a 2-year extension with the New England Patriots on July 27th.
The deal is reportedly worth 20.8 million over two years, with 17.85 million guaranteed. In his first year with the team, Godchux was a big part of the defensive line playing 60 percent of the snaps with 17 quarterback pressures, 25 run stops, one sack, and 65 total tackles. Per PFF, Godchux was New England’s highest-rated run defender. Godchux, who was originally a fifth-round pick (178th overall) by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL draft, got acquired by the Patriots in March of 2021.
The Patriots will look to better defend the run, starting with the big guys up front. The defense ranked 22nd in rush yards allowed and 25th in opposing yards per carrying, even with not giving up 100+ rushing yards in 8 games.
