The New England Patriots made a series of roster moves on Tuesday, August 21st.
First, the Patriots claimed WR Matt Landers off waivers and placed WR JaQuae Jackson on the Injured Reserve.
JaQuae Jackson suffered a leg injury during last week’s preseason game to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Landers, 25, had an interesting college career path, playing at Georgia, Toledo, and Arkansas. He spent his rookie season between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. He then entered the UFL and played with the Arlington Renegades and San Antonio Brahmas.
The 6-foot-1, 184-pounder hasn’t played in a regular-season NFL game and is on an upward path to making the 53-man roster, which will be finalized next Tuesday. He joins Kendrick Bourne, DeMario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, Kawaan Baker, Jalen Reagor, Tyquan Thornton, Kayshon Boutte, and David Wallis.
On Tuesday, The Patriots also added their defense, signing edges’ Kobe Jones and Christian McCarroll. Aaron Wilson was the first to report the move.
Both players had successful visits today with the Patriots.
Jones, 26, attended Missipii State and has since played with several NFL teams, including the Falcons, Dolphins, Titans, Packers, and Panthers. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defender had previously worked out with the Patriots but didn’t sign with the organization. He played in the CFL last spring, appearing in six games for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
McCarroll, 25, was part of the 2024 NFL Draft class but went undrafted. Coincidentally, he went to Grand Valley State—the same college as Matthew Judon. He was an All-American last year, recording eight sacks and 67 tackles.
The signings could indicate that Oshane Ximines will miss extended time after being absent from the last couple of practices.
The New England Patriots will wrap up their preseason against the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football, which will air on NBC.
