The New England Patriots have made their fourth selection in the 2024 draft, another offensive player.
The New England Patriots have strategically added former Texas A&M guard Layden Robinson to their roster. The 22-year-old guard, who has played in 44 games through five seasons with the Aggies, brings a unique offensive prowess. During his college career, he’s started in 33 games, all at right tackle, a position that the Patriots seem keen on strengthening.
“I’m a grinder; it’s. It’s been instilled in me for a long time, especially with my coaching staff at Texas A&M,” Robinson told the media Saturday. I’m just going to be a grinder. I will be tough and gritty and go after people repeatedly. That’s how I do my play style.
He played in the Shrine Bowl, where he practiced as a tackle. Robinson measured at 6’3, 302-pounds at the NFL Combine in March.
Last year, his draft stock skyrocketed, and he was named Second-team All-SEC. He only allowed one sack in 401 snaps.
At Texas A&M, he was dominant in the run game, where the offense featured an inside-zone downhill run scheme. He is a very athletic guard who should have no trouble elevating his game to the next level.
The Patriots’ decision to draft Robinson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft has raised some eyebrows. With the team already selecting tackle Caedan Wallce in the third round, it’s clear that the Patriots are making strategic moves to strengthen their offensive line. This could also be a sign that Cole Strange, a former first-round pick who has struggled with his health and performance, isn’t guaranteed a spot on the roster this summer.
Robinson joins Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, and Jake Andrews on the depth chart along with Strange.
