All good things must come to an end.
After months of speculation, we now know that longtime Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick will no longer be the Patriots head coach next season, per muliple reports.
Belichick’s departure comes after posting a 302-164 record and winning 6 Super Bowls with the Patriots.
Since Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick are mutually parting ways, there will be no compensation for Belichick. Patriots will be looking for a new head coach for the first time in 24 years.
Belichick, 71, started his coaching career in 1975 with the Baltimore Colts. He spent time with the Lions and Broncos before joining the Giants and was eventually promoted to defensive coordinator. Then, in 1991, the Browns hired Belichick as head coach, but he only lasted five years before being fired. He joined Bill Parcells as an assistant and was expected to replace him but was traded and hired by the Patriots instead. Belichick has tallied a 302-163 record in his career and eight Super Bowl rings.
Bill Belichick is expected to draw interest from around the league, more specifically the Atalanta Falcons, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Meanwhile ESPN is also reporting that Mike Vrabel, Jerod Mayo and Brian Flores are expected to gather the most intrest to takeover as Patriots head coach.
Since future Hall-of-Famer quarter left the Patriots, Bill Belichick has struggled to replicate the same success he once had coaching the Patriots. Since 2019, the Patriots have recorded a 29-39 record, and only has made one playoff appearance. This season didn’t get any better with the Patriots finishing with a 4-13 record, their worst in the Belichick era.
The Patriots and Bill Belichick will hold a conference for assembled media outside Gillete Stadium at noon, per the team.
This is a devolving story. More to come.
